Come to the Starboard Galley on Saturday evening, February 4, 2012 between 6 and 7:30pm for an Oyster Sampling to benefit Pennies for Poverty. Master shucker Richard Rush will be on hand to crack open delicious fresh oysters. You'll have the opportunity to order a beverage, sample a complementary oyster or two and donate to the Pennies 2 Cent Grant Fund. Your support is important as we continue raising awareness of poverty and collecting donations to assist those who are experiencing poverty here in Greater Newburyport.
It should be a fun evening for all and a great way to assist those in need. Once you've sampled and donated you should plan to settle in for a delicious meal right there at the Starboard Galley, 55 Water Street, Newburyport. Hope to see you there!

ROOF has received $4000 to assist with rental subsidies for its transitional housing program which assists homeless and at risk families in greater Newburyport. The program at ROOF is based on providing housing along with a social service component to families in need with support for such issues as education, addiction, joblessness and mental illness.
The NLEC has received $1000 to support programs addressing conflict resolution, peer counseling and anti bullying for at risk youth in Newburyport. Pennies for Poverty recently received donations from the Provident Bank ($250) and Newburyport Five Cents Savings Bank ($200) for the purchase of new 2 Cent collection containers. These clear containers provide us with a uniform donation box which has a header giving us greater visibility and way to display our message to potential donors. We thank both institutions for their generosity. Look for these newer more visible containers where you shop around town, and be sure to thank the retailer for their willingness to participate in this important program. If you would like to be a 2 Cent retailer, please email jlindner@penniesforpoverty.org.
